At Triton Diving Llafranc, we believe that diving is not only about exploring the sea, but also about caring for it and protecting it.
That’s why Regorgonia’t was created, our marine conservation project.
Gorgonians are marine animals that form true underwater forests, essential for life in the Mediterranean.
At Ullastres, these forests:
However, they are fragile and highly sensitive to climate change and human impact.
1. We raise awareness among divers by explaining what gorgonians are, why they are so important, and how to dive responsibly to minimize impact on these fragile ecosystems.
2. We recover gorgonians that have fallen due to storms or human impact, selecting those that are still viable, and replant them using marine epoxy, a special adhesive suitable for underwater environments. These replantings are carried out at depths greater than 30 meters, in areas with current and optimal conditions, to minimize thermal stress and maximize their survival and recovery. This is an active restoration action that helps rebuild the structure of the gorgonian forest and, with it, all the life that depends on it.
3. We participate in Observadores del Mar projects, contributing to citizen science by monitoring the condition of gorgonians, conducting fish censuses, and recording observations of seagrass, jellyfish, and other species, helping to generate key data to better understand and protect our sea.
4. We organize the Triton Talks, public talks open to everyone on marine and conservation topics, often linked to charity dives that support other projects and initiatives.
5. We create and share outreach content to bring the sea closer to everyone, showcasing the species of our coastline and promoting a more conscious and respectful view of the marine environment.
